Campaigns and Movements
Since 2000, to further the cause of progressive change in the University of the Philippines and Philippine society, ALYANSA joins numerous student alliances, councils and organizations in various campaigns and movements such as the Progressive UP Charter campaign; Better Budget for UP; Higher Budget for Education campaign; Socialized Tuition campaign; Relevant General Education Program campaign; Relevant National Service Training Program campaign; UP Pahinungod campaign; Democratize the Student Regent Selection Process campaign; Progressive Magna Carta of Students campaign; Electoral Reform and Voters’ Education campaign; Anti-Corruption and Anti-Trapo movement; and Solidarity for Peace movement.
In line with these campaigns and movements, ALYANSA has also worked with various sectoral, national and international alliances, councils and organizations such as AKBAYAN Citizens’ Action Party, AKBAYAN Youth, Alyansa ng Nagkakaisang Lakas ng Kabataan (ALYANSA), Movement for the Advancement of Student Power (MASP), Student Council Alliance of the Philippines (SCAP), U SPEAK Network, Young Progressives Southeast Asia (YPSEA), Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES), Focus on the Global South, and Solidarity to Oppose Wars (STOP the War!) Coalition.
For the GMA Out campaign, ALYANSA is a member of the Alyansa para sa Kinabukasan ng Alternatibong Sambayanan (AKLAS Kabataan), Bukluran ng Katataan para sa Katotohanan (BUKLURAN Kabataan) and Black and White Youth Movement. The formation also participates in the education and information campaigns, lobbying efforts, and mass mobilizations of AKBAYAN Citizens’ Action Party, LABAN NG MASA, and Silent Majority Prayer Movement.
Leadership and Service Training Program (LSTP)
One of the major programs of ALYANSA is the annual Leadership and Service Training Program (LSTP) for UP student leaders.
The LSTP is a comprehensive program composed of numerous discussions, sharing sessions and workshops. The LSTP revolves around five major courses and themes: Formation Orientation; Leadership and Service Orientation; Progressive Multi-Perspective Activism Workshop; Local, National and International Issues Workshop; and Program Articulation and Implementation Workshop. Various interrelated topics are discussed with UP student leaders in each of these five major courses and themes. Among the topics are leadership, service and volunteerism; diversity and human rights; environmental issues; cultural perspectives; political-economic-social spectrum; science, technology and society; gender and sexuality; youth and student movement; college and university issues; education sector issues; national and international issues; vision-mission-goal and general program of action; organizational management; writers’ training; and speakers’ training.
Facilitators and resource speakers for the LSTP include ALYANSA alumni and resident members aside from other notable leaders of the academe and various non-government organizations, people’s organizations and social movements.
Volunteer Service Program (VSP)
In line with ALYANSA’s recognition of various expressions and manifestations of student activism, the formation participates in a number of civic and volunteer campaigns and projects as part of its Volunteer Service Program (VSP).
In pushing for volunteerism, ALYANSA has worked with various institutions such as AKBAYAN Citizens’ Action Party for its First Time Voters campaign; National Movement for Free Elections (NAMFREL) and GMA Kapuso Network Company for their respective National Elections Volunteer Recruitment program; Down Syndrome Association of the Philippines Inc. (DSAPI) for its Happy Walk with Children project; National Youth Commission (NYC) for its Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) Volunteer Recruitment program; World Wildlife Fund (WWF)-Philippines for its Positibong Alternatibo ang Renewable Energy (PARE) ni JUAN campaign; and Department of Education (DepEd) and Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) for their Tulong Barya para sa Eskwela project.
The formation also spearheads numerous calamity and disaster relief projects and supports various civic and volunteer projects such as Pahinungod sa CSSP, initiated by Buklod CSSP as a major program of the CSSP Student Council (CSSPSC) and Sandugo: Isang Blood-Letting Activity, sponsored by UP TAU RHO XI FRATERNITY.

Geared towards academic excellence, leadership and service orientation, and social commitment and responsibility, ALYANSA and its member organizations have produced countless summa cum laude, magna cum laude and cum laude graduates and bar and board exam topnotchers as well as student leaders of various student alliances, councils and organizations. ALYANSA has produced one University Student Council (USC) Chairperson; two USC Vice-Chairperson; and nineteen USC Councilors. The formation has also produced numerous USC College Representatives, College Student Council Officers and Student Organization Officers.
